Penela Castle
Penela Castle is a medieval fortress dating back to the 11th century, founded by D. Sesnando Davides and was part of the Mondego Defensive Line, serving as the advance guard of Coimbra. It is the main stage for one of the biggest national Christmas events, the «Penela Presépio» and the Penela Medieval Fair, one of the oldest in the country.
Pedra da Ferida Waterfall
Located in Serra do Espinhal, this admirable waterfall is hidden, which is almost 25 meters high and has a fantastic natural pool. Accessed via Ribeira da Azenha, this waterfall is currently connected to Praia Fluvial da Louçainha by a linear circuit walkway, which allows you to enjoy all the natural wealth of the region.
Germanelo Castle
Located on a hillside flanked by the Rabaçal karst valley, Germanelo Castle dates back to the Reconquista era. From the top of the hill you can enjoy a magnificent landscape over the Rabaçal valley and in the distance, you can glimpse the line of the old Roman road, still visible from that place today.
Museum and Roman Villa of Rabaçal
In the middle of the Rabaçal Valley and located 12 km from Conímbriga, this octagonal Villa is an integral part of the old city, next to the road that connected Olisipo (Lisbon) to Bracara Augusta (Braga). The Villa Romana is a polynucleated museum, spread across three main areas: the Museum Space (headquarters), the Archaeological Station and the Chanca Viewpoint.

Conímbriga is a settlement established since the Copper Age, which was an important center during the Roman Republic and which continued to be inhabited until at least the 9th century.

Schist Villages
It is in this territory that almost half of the 27 Schist Villages are located: Aigra Nova, Aigra Velha, Candal, Casal de São Simão, Casal Novo, Cerdeira, Chiqueiro, Comareira, Ferrarias de São João, Gondramaz, Pena and Talasnal. They are small villages, often hidden by the rich vegetation that surrounds them, where shale and rurality predominate.
Fragas and Casal de São Simão
On the banks of Ribeira de Alge, this route connects the viewpoints of Fragas de São Simão and Ermida de São Simão, on a journey through different spaces and times, which also passes through Aldeia do Xisto de Casal de São Simão and crosses the bottom of these impressive cliffs , where Ribeira de Alge passes.
Soprador do Carvalho Cave
The Soprador do Carvalho Cave, with a documented length of 3000m and an estimated 4500m, is the most significant area of the Dueça River speleological system, the most extensive cave in the Sicó Massif and one of the largest in Portugal. The visit to the Soprador do Carvalho Cave is done under guidance and supervision.
